On Friday the 28 February, I went to the House of
Commons to participate in NYAs (the National Youth
Associations) Annual Sitting.
As the Youth MP of St Helens, I represented young
people's views on universally free transport for under
18-year-olds. I opposed the motion, stating that we
should focus on something more realistic, so that we
can make a tangible impact on, not only the lives of
young people, but the wider world.

The reason why I argued this point is due to the history
Of the organisation: last year we voted on universal free
School meals and essentially, nobody took us seriously,
Leading sadly to the permanent closure of the British Youth
Council (BYC)
Luckily, the NYA picked up where they had left off, and so
I thought it would be best if we learned from the past
To ensure a much smoother campaign with greater impact.
In the end, we voted on 5 motions, and I am proud to
announce the NYA will be campaigning to lowering the
voting age to 16 in England and Northern Ireland, while
also working on ending period poverty across the UK.
It was a great event, and I cannot wait to campaign on
both of these topics!
